Time Trials

Time trials are the simplest of competitive cycling events. Also known as the race of truth - it’s just you against the clock.

Time Trial Rules

All participants shall sign in with the timer keeper between fifteen (15) and twenty five(25) minutes prior to the event start time.  Individuals arriving after this time will be started at the end, in the order of arrival, subject to the timer keeper's discretion.

The start order shall be determined by the time keeper and announced, at the start point, five (5) minutes prior to the event start time.  Riders will be started at 30 second or 1 minute intervals depending upon participant numbers.

Participants may warm up on the course prior to the start time of the first rider, after which the course must be cleared.

In out-and-back time trials, it is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that the U-turn at the half-way point can be made safely, and the final judgment about whether the U-turn is safe rests with the participant.  The turn-around marshal, if present, shall estimate the time of the delay caused to participants who judge that they must wait for traffic to clear. The delay will be deducted from the participants final time.

Participants arriving late for the their assigned start time will have the delay included in their final time.

As they cross the finish line for a time trial, participants must shout out their assigned start number. Failure to do so could result in an incorrect finish time.

At the end of a time trial participants should assemble in the parking area to wait for results. They may not approach the time keeper while he or she is at the side of the road.

Drafting is strictly prohibited except in Team Time Trials.  Leave a wide gap if you have to pass (at least 10m, and 1m laterally).  Pass on the left and make your presence known by yelling "passing" or "on your left". Drafting, when required for safety (e.g. to permit vehicles to safely pass) will be permitted.

LCC time trials will be run with two categories, Aero, and Eddy Merckx.

Riders participating in the Aero category may use any equipment permitted according to UCI regulations.  LCC will not perform equipment inspections to ensure compliance.

Riders participating in the Eddy Merckx category may not use any aerodynamic aids, such as aerobars or TT helmets.  Aero wheels, with the exception of disc wheels, will be permitted so long as they are mass-start legal.  Acceptability of equipment for the Eddy Merckx category shall be at the sole discretion of the time keeper.
